Resveratrol
Resveratrol was discovered in 1924 and was first isolated from the root of Veratrum grandiflorum by the Japanese in 1940. In 1976, Res (resveratrol) was also found in the leaves of grapes. It is an antitoxin secreted by plants in adverse circumstances or when they are attacked by pathogens. The synthesis of Res (resveratrol) is sharply increased in ultraviolet radiation, mechanical damage and fungal infection, so it is called phytoalexin. Res has been found in more than 700 plants, including 12 families, 31 genera and 72 species of plants, of which grape, polygonum cuspidatum, peanut and other human foods have a higher content.
